March 14, 2007 — -- Sometimes, instead of making life easier, technology can make life more complicated, especially for aging baby boomers.

Now many companies are tweaking gadgets to make lives easier.

Many older Americans don't want or need a phone that's also a supercomputer capable of e-mailing, taking pictures and holding multiple ringtones. With the Jitterbug phone, made by GreatCall, you don't even have to dial. Users can preprogram key numbers into the address book and then just hit the operator key. The operator will call whomever you want from your address book.

A lot of people complain that their remote controls are too complicated. The solution is a giant remote that you won't lose in the cushions of the couch. It even lights up in the dark.

If you have trouble remembering your computer password and/or worry that someone might steal it, a computer with a fingerprint logon could be for you. The computer identifies you with your fingertip and only lets you log on.

For people who misplace their keys or want to leave the house without carrying their keys, there's a lock that can be opened with a fingerprint. The locks are widely available in home improvement stores.

Medical studies show it's important for people to exercise their brains to keep them limber. One way boomers can do that is with easy-to-use video games like the Nintendo DS Handheld Game.

In addition to exercising your brain, it's important to exercise your body. But if they can't go outside and exercise, boomers can accomplish this with virtual sports games on the Nintendo Wii.
