'Good Morning America' Weather Anchor

Sam Champion debuted as weather anchor of "Good Morning America" and weather editor of ABC News in September 2006.

As weather anchor of "GMA," Champion is based at "Good Morning America's" Times Square Studios home in the heart of midtown Manhattan where he reports the latest national weather throughout the morning program.

In addition, Champion travels to various weather-related stories around the country and globe. Since joining "GMA," Champion has reported from California, where he reported live on the wildfires; from Enterprise, Ala., on the devestating tornadoes that damaged that part of the country; from ice storms in the Midwest, in which Champion reported live from Chicago as well as Denver; and from Atlanta and Boston for severe winter weather.

In addition to Champion's daily weather reports, he continues to be at the forefront of reporting on the environment and global warming. Champion also brings morning viewers tips and information on what they can do to be more environmentally efficient. Champion also played a large role in ABC News' networkwide Earth Day reporting.

Not only does Champion report about the weather and the environment, he continues to bring viewers various feature stories and travels to morning events, including anchoring "GMA's" live morning concert with Justin Timberlake in Memphis, Tenn., and anchoring "Good Morning America's" coverage of the 2006 Country Music Association (CMA) Awards live from Nashville, Tenn.

Before joining ABC News, Champion spent 18 years at WABC-TV in New York where he was the city's most-watched weatherman in the New York-New Jersey-Connecticut area. Prior to WABC-TV, Champion was a weekend weather anchor and news reporter at WJKS-TV in Jacksonville, Fla. Champion was a news and weather anchor/reporter at WPSD-TV in Paducah, Ky. Champion began his career in broadcast news as an intern at WKYT-TV in Lexington, Ky., while he attended college.

Champion is involved with many charities in the New York area, including the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University, with a bachelor's degree in broadcast news. He resides in New York City.
