When Should I Call My Doctor About A Sinus Infection?

Question: When should I call my doctor about a sinus infection?

Ralph Metson, M.D., Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary

Answer: If cold symptoms become prolonged -- just don't resolve after the typical 72 hours or so that a cold is expected to last -- then it's time to think about calling your doctor. He or she may want to prescribe some medications to treat sinusitis, particularly if you have symptoms of facial pressure and discolored nasal drainage that just don't seem to be going away.
