Can Diabetics Ever Eat Sugar?

Question: Hi. I'm James from Austin, Texas. I was recently diagnosed with diabetes. Does that mean I can never eat sugar again?

R.D. Delahanty answers the question: 'Can Diabetics Ever Eat Sugar?'

Answer: Hi James. Just because you were recently diagnosed with diabetes does not mean that you can never eat sugar again. Anyone with diabetes can fit foods with sugar into their eating habits without a problem. What we really focus on is the total amount of carbohydrates that you eat in a day and you want to keep that pretty regular. So sugar is part of the total carbohydrates and you want work with someone like a dietician to help you manage that.
