Should I Buy A Glucose Meter With A Memory?

Question: My name is Tyler. I'm a type 1 diabetic and I was diagnosed in 1989 and my question is, should I buy a glucose meter with a memory?

R.D. Delahanty answers the question: 'Should I Buy A Glucose Meter With Memory?'

Answer: Hi Tyler. All the glucose meters now-a-days have a memory in them, so when you buy one you will automatically get a memory. The memory in the meter is very helpful because it can go back a number of weeks and record for you the blood sugar results you got and the time of day you got them. And so when you go in to see you doctor or dietician or nurse educator, then they can really download the blood sugar information from your meter and work with you about that. Sometimes if you don't have time to write down the results on a piece of paper or a record book, it's handy to have the meter recording it for you.
