Can Occasional Fasting Reduce The Risk of Developing Diabetes?

Question: Hi. My name is Colin from Austin, Texas and my question is can occasional fasting help reduce the risk of diabetes?

R.D. Delahanty answers the question: 'Can Occasional Fasting Reduce The Risk?'

Answer: Colin, it's not so clear whether occasional fasting could help reduce the risk of diabetes, but what we do know is that losing weight over time -- 5 to 7 percent of your body weight and exercising 150 minutes a week can reduce your risk of developing diabetes by 58 percent. So if you can manage your eating in such a way that you actually lose seven percent of your body weight and maintain an activity level at 150 minutes, you really have a good chance to prevent diabetes.
