Dr. Jay Brooks answers the question: 'What Is Ultrasound?'

Answer: An ultrasound is a test where sound waves are passed through tissue. Ultrasounds are very helpful in breast disease when we're trying to determine whether a mass that we may see on either physical exam or in a mammogram, to determine whether or not it is a cyst -- which is usually benign -- or a solid, which usually involves further workup.
