On January 6, 2021, a mob of violent pro-Trump supporters, who believed the 2020 presidential election results were fraudulent, stormed the U.S. Capitol building as Congress met to ratify the Electoral College results, declaring Joe Biden the next president of the country. The breaching of the Capitol building led to lawmakers and staff scrambling for safety. The deadly riot shocked the country and threatened America's democracy. The events of the day resulted in the second impeachment of President Donald Trump.
